About Me

Claire Lloyd from Talking Therapy

At The Karuna Centre, Harrogate I support clients face to face but also online from the UK and beyond via Zoom.

Relational therapy is an extremely effective treatment for a wide range of psychological and emotional problems, understanding as it does that so many of them are rooted in troubled relationships of the past and present.

Through life we often find ways of coping that are not healthy or helpful to ourselves in preference to being able to acknowledge or accept our feelings. These coping mechanisms are there to protect us from hurt upset and trauma. Knowing how we do feel and then communicating that feeling seems basic when we say it out loud but is surprisingly difficult. As a result we feel lost in the relationship with ourself and disconnected to our needs.

These coping mechanisms can look like dissociation, disordered eating, self harm and others. Improving our connection with ourselves and supporting the self to disconnect from unhealthy and disorientating coping mechanisms is helpful and liberating.

Trauma work also represents a large part of my work with clients whether that's recovering from abusive relationships in childhood or later. I work relationally alongside clients with complex PTSD, anxiety disorders and other issues resulting from trauma and neglect.

I also work with My Menopause Centre, as psychological support to many women who are experiencing difficulties due to peri or menopause. Working relationally as well as offering some CBT to tackle symptoms and side effects I support women through what can be a very tough time with high levels of anxiety, sleeplessness and discomfort both physically and mentally.

l am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and I work within their ethical framework for counselling professions. I also have experience of working with suicide prevention, severe anxiety and OCD and childhood trauma and dissociation.
